OMNeT++ is the discrete event network simulation tool to build realistic network simulation frameworks such as Veins, Veins_inet. Veins and Veins-inet provide wireless communication protocol models such as 802.11p, WiFi.
The basic component of OMNeT++ to built any communication model is called module. Modules are used to exchange messages.
In OMNeT++, the communication system can be built by using simple modules and compound modules (i.e., nested modules) which are stacked in a specific hierarchy.
The simulation results can be stored in scalar and vector text files and analyzed by using the OMNeT++ simulation IDE. Other simulation tools can also be used to analyze the files such as Matlab, R.
